The 85,000-square-foot Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History features more than 87,000 artifacts pertaining to the natural history, science, and ecology of South Texas. Exhibits focus prominently on the area's involvement with 15th- and 16th-century Spanish ships and the Voyage of Columbus. It houses the Western Hemisphere's oldest scientifically excavated shipwreck, as well as "Seeds of Change," an exhibit chronicling the transition of the Old World to the New World following Columbus's landing. The museum lies in the heart of town, next to Ship Channel and the Water Garden.
